Ageless, Effortless, Intentional Style: Stylist Yara Svalek on Refining Your Style at Any Age

There’s something incredibly powerful about a woman who truly understands her style - not because she follows every trend, but because she knows what works for her life and wears it with confidence. Today we’re delighted to introduce Yara Svalek, the stylist and thoughtful voice behind Style Me Yara. Known for her curated, edited approach to dressing, Yara helps women refine their wardrobes with intention rather than excess. Her philosophy is simple but transformative: choose fewer pieces, choose them well, and style them in ways that feel personal and effortless.

With a background in marketing and visual storytelling - and a life shaped by living in New York, Hawaii, and Europe - Yara brings a global perspective to midlife style. She believes confidence doesn’t come from buying more, but from gaining clarity: understanding your foundations, investing in quality, and dressing for who you are now. In this conversation, we explore building a signature wardrobe, the power of editing, and the timeless pieces that truly work again and again.

For those in our community who may be discovering you for the first time, please can you introduce yourself and share a little about what you do?

I’m Yara, a stylist and the face behind StyleMeYara. I help women make sense of their wardrobes and refine their personal style with a more curated, edited approach. I approach style a bit like an editor, thinking about what stays, what goes, and how to build outfits that actually work in real life. A lot of what I share is focused on great staples, smart combinations, and the small styling details that make a look feel finished. My goal is to make getting dressed feel easier, more intentional, and more personal, without the pressure to constantly buy something new.

What first drew you to fashion and styling, and how did that evolve into Style Me Yara?
Fashion has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, but my relationship with it really evolved through living in different places. I spent time in New York, moved to Hawaii, and then back to Europe, and with every move my style shifted too. At some point I realised that constantly starting over teaches you something important: you don’t need more, you need clarity. That was a bit of a lightbulb moment for me. I started streamlining, paying attention to what I kept reaching for, and building a more signature wardrobe around timeless, neutral foundations. Then I could have fun changing the mood through accessories, which is still one of my favourite parts of styling.

Professionally, I come from a marketing and content background, so visual storytelling has always been part of how I think. I’m naturally wired to notice details, build a point of view, and translate ideas into something people can actually use. Styling became a natural extension of that. I was always analysing, saving references, helping friends put looks together. Eventually I stopped treating it like a side interest and gave myself permission to make it the main focus. That’s how Style Me Yara came to life.

Your content speaks so powerfully to women 50+. How has aging influenced the way you approach getting dressed and choosing pieces that truly work for you?
Aging has made me more precise, more intentional, and more free at the same time. I’m less interested in buying for fantasy and much more interested in buying for real life, while still keeping the look expressive. I care more about fabric, fit, and how a piece actually moves and feels on the body.

I also think confidence changes with age. You start dressing more for yourself, and less for external approval, which is incredibly liberating. That’s one of the reasons I love working with women in this stage of life, they’re often ready to edit, refine, and build a wardrobe that reflects who they are now, not who they used to be.

You’re known for being very thoughtful about what you add to your wardrobe. What do you look for in a piece before deciding it deserves a place in your closet?
Before I buy anything, I run it through a few simple questions. Does it work with at least three outfits I already own? Does it elevate what’s already in my wardrobe, or is it just another version of something I have? Can I picture myself wearing it in real life, and in multiple ways? I also pay close attention to fabric, fit, and proportion, because if something doesn’t feel good on the body, it never gets worn.

And when I’m buying more premium pieces, I do think strategically about resale value too. If I ever choose to move it on, will it hold up, and will it still be desirable? Of course, there are exceptions for truly special pieces, but in general I like every addition to earn its place.

You recently chose to purchase the incredible Raey trench from us. We absolutely love this piece too! What drew you to it?
Raey has been one of my all-time favourite brands for premium, neutral wardrobe staples. The pieces always feel considered in cut and fabrication, minimal but never boring. I’m such a fan that I’m constantly keeping an eye on the second-hand market for rare Raey finds, so when this trench came up, it felt like the kind of piece you don’t overthink.

It’s the perfect balance of timeless and modern. It has presence and an architectural feel, but it’s still minimal and wearable. I love the proportion and the structure, it’s one of those outerwear pieces that instantly makes an outfit look intentional, even if you’re wearing something very simple underneath. It’s a true finisher piece that does a lot of the work for you.

Many women feel stuck or unsure about style as they get older. How do you believe a well-edited wardrobe can help rebuild confidence and self-expression in midlife and beyond?
When your wardrobe is edited, getting dressed becomes easier and more empowering. You stop defaulting to the same “safe” outfit because you actually trust what’s in your closet. An edited wardrobe also helps you see your style clearly, your shapes, your colours, your go-to combinations. That clarity builds confidence because you feel prepared. You know what works, and you can express different moods without feeling overwhelmed by clutter.

It also makes repeating outfits feel exciting again. When you have strong pieces that work together, you can wear the same base look again and again, and simply shift the mood through styling, accessories, or layering.

You often talk about pieces that “work again and again.” What are your go-to wardrobe staples that define timeless style?
I’m very blazer-biased, I’ll admit it. A great blazer or coat with strong tailoring is one of the most reliable pieces you can own. Add a crisp button-down, a perfect pair of jeans, and great shoes you can actually walk in, and you already have the foundation of so many outfits. I also love a beautiful knit and a sleek trouser that can flex between day and evening.

For me, timeless style is really about silhouette and quality. If you invest in the right pieces in these categories, and the fit is right, they go a long way. You can wear them on repeat, style them differently, and they never feel outdated.

Finally, if you could give one piece of style advice to women rediscovering their style right now, what would it be?

Start with a strong foundation, then build from there. Edit first, then add. When you remove what doesn’t feel like you anymore, your real style becomes visible. Invest in a few pieces with great fit and structure, and then use styling details to make them feel personal. The goal isn’t to look “younger” or to follow everything new, it’s to look like yourself, but sharper.
